The Van Gogh Finger Painting

Fireside
It is my interpretation of a campfire.
·         The steps to complete this project:
  1. Movement has to be created in the picture, so I took my fingers and started making blue swirls for the sky.
  2. After the sky was dry and complete, I made a yellow sun.
  3. The next step was creating the fire.  I used red, orange, and yellow paint.  And pulled my fingers across the paper towards the top.  This created movement in my fire.
  4. I took blue, black, and white and swirled it around in the sky.  This was the smoke from the fire.  I used more black and white then blue.
  5. Grass and the fire were logs were the last part of my project to complete the painting.
  6. After I let dry I than framed it with construction paper.
An Extension to this activity:
  • Students could right reflect about the feelings toward the paint.  Or when they look at the painting what type of feeling to they feel.
    • For example, mine would be a warm cozy feeling because it makes me think of family and sitting around a fire place.
  • You could have the student s do their interpretation of the seasons.  Each student will have a different idea.  They must include movement throughout their work.  There are way different ideas you can do with this project, it is a great way for students to feel movement.
