I made a Hawaiian Lei using construction paper, string, and straws. First I made flowers out of construction paper and a watercolor abstract painting. Once the flowers are made and cut out; a hole punch was used to create a whole in the middle of the flower. Also I cut the straws into 2 inch pieces. I took the string and made a loop on one end and then placed a bobbie pin on the other end to help string the flowers. After that is ready to start stringing the flowers and straws. Start with a flower followed by the 2 inch straw then a flower, then a straw again. Continue the process until their are at least 24 straws and flowers. Once finished tie and wear!
Extension:
Create these in your classroom and the students can hand them to the staff in the school. Also in Social Studies class the students could research the Hawaiian culture.
